Ali Bhagat

Ali Bhagat (he/him) is an Assistant Professor at Simon Fraser University in the School of Public Policy. Previous to this he held tenure-track equivalent positions at the University of Manchester and Saint Mary’s University in Halifax.

Ali’s research interests involve refugee and immigration policy, race and political economy, and sexuality. He has a book forthcoming with Cornell University Press (2024) titled Governing the Displaced: Race and Ambivalence in Global Capitalism which compares refugee survival in Paris, France and Nairobi, Kenya. Ali’s work appears in a variety of highly ranked journals such as the Review of International Political Economy, Antipode, and Economy and Space to name a few. He is a qualitative researcher who collaborates with practitioners, policy makers, government, non-governmental organisations, and displaced, vulnerable, and marginalized people. He advises around the nexus of refugee and immigration policy and forced labour.
