Ali Bhagat

Ali Bhagat (he/him) is an Assistant Professor at Simon Fraser University in the School of Public Policy. Previous to this he held tenure-track equivalent positions at the University of Manchester and Saint Mary’s University in Halifax.
Ali’s research interests involve refugee and immigration policy, race and political economy, and sexuality. With Cornell University Press, he recently published Governing the Displaced: Race and Ambivalence in Global Capitalism, which compares refugee survival in Paris, France and Nairobi, Kenya. Ali’s work appears in a variety of highly ranked journals such as the Review of International Political Economy, Antipode, and Economy and Space to name a few. He is a qualitative researcher who collaborates with practitioners, policy makers, government, non-governmental organisations, and displaced, vulnerable, and marginalized people. He advises around the nexus of refugee and immigration policy and forced labour.
