Sou Min Shin
Research Assistant
Sou Min Shin is a Master’s candidate in Earth Systems with a focus on environmental justice and policy at Stanford University, where she also earned her bachelor’s degree in International Relations and Science, Technology, and Society. Her work examines the intersections of sustainability, corporate accountability, and human rights, with a particular focus on the conditions of migrant workers in the agricultural sector. She has led and contributed to interdisciplinary research projects, including co-authoring a community air monitoring blueprint with Stanford Law School and the Leadership Counsel for Justice and Accountability to address regulatory gaps around agricultural pollution in California’s San Joaquin Valley. Sou Min has also worked with the Environmental Defense Fund to develop climate engagement strategies that build organizational capacity for emissions reduction. Her prior experience spans the public, private, and nonprofit sectors, including roles at the U.S. Embassy in Seoul, Human Rights Without Frontiers, and the Korea Legal Aid Corporation, where she supported migrant workers and asylum seekers through legal research and advocacy. At Stanford, Sou Min has served as a Teaching Assistant for courses in sustainability, ethics, and public speaking, and held leadership positions such as President of the Stanford Korean Student Association. Her interdisciplinary background informs her commitment to advancing evidence-based solutions that address systemic inequities in global labor and supply chains.
